Industries

How a whole category ships, and the benchmark every brand in it is measured against.

Industries groups every tracked brand into a category, such as fashion, beauty or homewares, so you can read the category as a whole. The list shows Your industries (the ones your followed brands sit in) first, then every vertical, with each one's volume over the last 30 days.

An industry page

Each industry shows:

  • Volume over time: how much the category put out, month by month, by channel.
  • Most active brands: ranked by what we captured in the last 90 days.
  • Sub-industries, where a category splits further.
  • How the category ships: email cadence and the share of emails carrying an offer, per channel and per brand.

The category mean

The category mean is what a typical email in this category does. It is the benchmark behind the comparisons on brand pages and the result in Score. It covers:

  • Offer and discount norms: the promo rate, the average discount, and how often offers carry a code or a deadline.
  • Technique prevalence: the share of the category's emails using each persuasion technique.
  • Stock phrases: the phrases this category leans on far more than the rest of retail. Each one opens the real sends that use it.

The mean is built from email only today, because every retail brand emails and that compares like with like. It is rebuilt every night. A category needs at least 30 emails before it gets a mean; until then the page says it is still building. See How the numbers work.
